Nice wallpaper for your widescreen Mac
Apple’s bright Mac displays are great for showing off beautiful photos, and I love having stunning wallpapers on my iMac’s desktop. However, not all wallpapers are a good fit for the widescreen displays used on current Macs. So I thought I’d hunt around for some really good quality widescreen images.
Here, then, are 5 wonderful widescreen wallpaper sites that I discovered on my travels:
InterfaceLIFT
InterfaceLIFT provides a nice selection of over 1,500 high-res widescreen wallpaper images – perfect for the Mac’s screen. They also provide nice icon sets that you can use to customize your file and folder icons (info on how to do this).
Widescreen Wallpaper Flickr group
Then there’s the Widescreen Wallpaper Flickr group pool with all sorts of highly original wallpaper images from around the world. New ones are added all the time, too.
Steve Truett
Steve Truett is an abstract artist from Dayton, Ohio. You can download his beautiful swirly designs in a variety of wallpaper formats, including widescreen. Lovely stuff.
Wallpaper Database
The Wallpaper Database is a German site with over 400 lovely user-contributed wallpapers. Each wallpaper is available in a large selection of formats: Mac widescreen, 4:3, 5:4, and even HDTV 16:9 and iPhone. How’s that for versatile!
Pixelgirl Presents
Last, but certainly not least, we have the wonderful Pixelgirl Presents. This site has a really nice, large collection of kooky artwork wallpaper in a variety of styles. Each wallpaper is available in a range of formats, both standard and widescreen; use the Browse by resolution option at the top of the page to choose. While you’re there, check out their equally kooky and wonderful iPhone wallpaper and Mac icon sets!
Once you’ve found a wallpaper image you like, you can set it as your desktop background from within your browser by right/Control-clicking the image and choosing Set as Desktop Background (Firefox) or Use Image as Desktop Picture (Safari).
Happy decorating. 🙂
